  • Tompkins County Public Library

    Tompkins County Public Library is the official philanthropy of the Panhellenic Association. Each year the council sponsors an event to raise money for different activities at the library from purchasing new books to youth programs. Historically, women from the Panhellenic community have volunteered at the library over the course of the semester in a variety of programs from reading to children to organizing books.

    Blood Drives


    Each semester the three Greek Councils hold a blood drive through the American Red Cross.  Both blood drives are publicized throughout the entire Cornell community; faculty, students, staff, and even members of the Ithaca community donate.

    Collegetown Cleanup


    Starting in 2008, each fall Greeks from different chapters converge on Collegetown Sunday mornings to clean up trash and improve the streets and sidewalks of a community where so many students live. Additionally, Cornell's Greek community is in the process of purchasing more recycling cans for Collegetown in the hopes that with more cans, residents will litter less.

    Day of Demeter


    Each spring the the Greek Councils co-sponsor a day of service called The Day of Demeter.  This Day of service provides members of the Greek community with the opportunity to work together to accomplish a common goal.  In 2009, Greeks met at Duffield hall in the morning for a light breakfast and some words of encouragement before dispersing in the larger Ithaca community to a variety of projects. Greeks cleaned attics, painted walls, organized closets and did yard work among other things.  In the past the Day of Demeter has consisted of a Collegetown Clean-up initiative, gorge clean-up, refurbishing Greek Park and planting within Collegetown and the Ithaca community.

    Chapter Events


    Each chapter also participates in their own philanthropy and service projects and in each other's activities. Some campus wide events include Into the Streets, The Ithaca Breast Cancer Alliance Walk, Take Back the Night, and Relay for Life.
